    Find Your Place

The personal location decision system. It answers one question: Where fits my life?

When you are finished, you have

A written decision rather than a longer shortlist: one leading destination, one backup, the reason the leader wins stated in your own words, the compromise you are knowingly accepting, and the short list of facts that still have to be verified before you commit money to it.

The first exercise takes fifteen minutes and gets you from 'anywhere' to three places worth testing, which is usually more progress than the previous month of reading.

Written forYou are seriously considering a move but cannot get the list of possible places down to a decision you would defend out loud.

Skip it ifYou already know where you are going. Nothing here will help you leave — that is The Move-Ready Reset.

Cover of Find Your Place, a digital workbook from Expat Blueprint

There is a particular kind of tiredness that comes from researching places to live. It does not feel like laziness. It feels like diligence. Another comparison table, another thread from someone who moved to Valencia in 2019, another cost calculator that disagrees with the last one. Months pass and the list of candidate countries has grown rather than shrunk.

The problem is almost never a shortage of information. It is that nothing you find tells you how to weigh it against your own life — the work you do, the money you can sustain, the parts of an ordinary Tuesday you refuse to make harder. Without that, more research just produces more options.

Find Your Place is built to end that loop. Not by promising certainty, but by producing a decision you can actually explain: one leading destination, one backup, the reason the leader wins, the compromise you are knowingly accepting, and the single fact most likely to change your mind.

    Where you are

Saved posts, open tabs, conflicting opinions, and a favourite place you are quietly afraid to choose for the wrong reason.

    Where it leaves you

One primary choice. One backup. A clear reason. A known compromise. A verification list. One next test.

    How the workbook moves

    01

Define — you describe the ordinary life you are trying to build before you name a single country. Work, groceries, movement, evenings, energy. Not landmarks.

    02

Filter — hard gates remove places that are impossible regardless of how attractive they look, and a sustainable monthly number does the rest of the cutting.

    03

Compare — the Decision Calculator rates the same handful of criteria across every finalist, weighting them through a point key rather than invented percentages.

    04

Test — the leader is stress-tested against the Tuesday Test, the Honeymoon Filter, and one realistic experiment you can run before committing anything expensive.

What is actually in the 86 pages

The Core Path is the spine of the workbook, and it ends before the last page on purpose. Everything after it exists for the situations that need a deeper answer, and the book tells you plainly when to stop.

    1. 01The 15-Minute First Win

      pages 4–8 · core path

Turns 'anywhere' into three places worth testing before you have committed to anything.

    2. 02The Life Brief

      pages 9–20 · core path

Describes the ordinary life you are trying to build, so the criteria come from you rather than from a ranking.

    3. 03Hard Gates and the Sustainable Number

      pages 21–36 · core path

Removes the places that are impossible on paper and the ones your money will not carry.

    4. 04The Decision Calculator

      pages 37–54 · core path

Scores every finalist against the same criteria, weighted by a point key you set once.

    5. 05Reality Tests

      pages 55–68 · core path

The Tuesday Test, the Honeymoon Filter, and one experiment you can run cheaply before committing.

    6. 06The Decision Dashboard

      pages 69–74 · core path

Leader, backup, the compromise you accept, and the fact most likely to change the result. The Core Path ends here.

    7. 07Optional Toolkit

      pages 75–86 · optional

Deciding with a partner, revisiting a stalled shortlist, and the research log — used only when needed.

    Pages from inside

Nothing here is decorative. Every page exists to move one decision forward or to stop you working on the wrong thing.

The 15-Minute First Win — from 'anywhere' to three places worth testing.
Your first shortlist, on one page.
The Decision Calculator — the same criteria, scored across every finalist.
The Decision Dashboard — leader, compromise, and the fact most likely to change the result.

Where you start depends on where you are

The workbook opens with four routes. You take one, and it tells you plainly what to skip.

    I am wide open

Start with the 15-Minute First Win, define your life, apply hard gates, and reduce the world to three serious options.

I have two or three finalists

Skip ideation. Life Brief, hard gates, evidence check, Decision Calculator, then a reality test.

I have a favourite but keep doubting it

Stop adding destinations. Challenge the favourite and verify the facts that could make it lose.

    We are deciding together

Each person writes their true needs privately first, then you compare the real conflicts. No averaging away a non-negotiable.

    Questions

    What format is it?

An 86-page PDF workbook, designed to be filled in on screen or printed. Fixed A4 layout, and it opens in any PDF reader on phone, tablet or computer — no extra software required.

Do I have to complete all 86 pages?

No, and the workbook actively tells you not to. The Core Path is the spine; the Optional Toolkit exists only for when a deeper answer is needed. There is an explicit stop rule.

Is this useful if I already know where I am going?

Less so. If your destination is chosen, The Move-Ready Reset is the better starting point.

Everything in this workbook grew out of the same work as the rest of the site: sixteen country guides, the cost comparison tool and the essays. You can read all of that for free first and decide afterwards whether the workbook is worth $29 to you.

    Before you decide

ChatGPT can do this for me. For gathering options, it genuinely can, and you should use it. What it hands back is three or four plausible countries and a paragraph on each — which is where most people already are, and where they stay. This workbook does the part that comes after: it makes you say what your ordinary life needs before you name a country, scores every finalist against those same criteria instead of against each other's marketing, and ends with a decision you signed off on and can return to in a month without starting over.

Whether now is the moment. If a move is still an idea for 'one day', this will not help you and you should not pay for it. It is written for someone with a realistic window in the next year or so.

The price, honestly. Weigh it against what choosing wrong costs: a deposit on a flat in the wrong city, a visa application made in the wrong order, a year spent somewhere that never quite fitted. Against that, the price of the workbook is not really the question.

What it does not replace. Nothing here stands in for an immigration lawyer, a tax adviser or someone licensed in the country you are moving to. What it does is tell you which questions belong to them, in what order, and before which deadline — so the conversation you eventually pay for is short and useful rather than exploratory.

What arrives. A 86-page PDF, sent to your email and available to download the moment the payment clears. No account to create, nothing to install, nothing in the post.

Where it works. The form fields fill in on a laptop, a tablet or a phone in any normal PDF reader, and the layout is built for A4 and US Letter if you would rather write on paper.

Whether it goes stale. Find Your Place is about how to think through a decision rather than this year's fee tables, so it does not expire. Revised editions are free to anyone who has already bought it.

Language. English throughout, written plainly enough to work as a second language and to translate without losing the thread.

    What it is not

It does not organise packing, cancellations, departure deadlines or the relocation budget. That is the next problem.

It is not tax, visa, immigration, medical, legal or financial advice. It tells you which questions must be answered before a decision is ready.

It will not hand you a ranked list of the world's best countries. The ranking depends on your life, and only you hold that input.

If you would rather not buy anything yet, deciding where to live is slow work and most of the useful thinking happens away from the screen — walking, cooking, on a train. Audible's 30-day free trial — suits that stage: a few books about the places you are weighing, before you commit to anything at all.
