About Expat Blueprint
One editor, sixteen countries, and a habit of checking everything against the authority that issued it. This is the resource I wanted when I was still deciding.
Our Story
Expat Blueprint started out of frustration. The first time I moved abroad I found plenty of resources filled with outdated figures, tourist-centric advice, and rose-tinted perspectives that didn't survive the first month.
I wanted honest answers to practical questions. How much does it actually cost to live here? How does the healthcare system treat a foreigner? Where do people find a social life once the novelty wears off? Which visa steps take longer than the official page suggests?
So I built the resource I wished I had, and kept adding to it as I learned more. It is one person's work, revised over time rather than published and forgotten.
The workbooks sold here are digital PDF downloads only. They help readers organise their own thinking before a move; they do not include any service, consultation, coaching, legal, tax, immigration, financial or medical advice. We write the workbooks, and we sell a licence to use the file — nothing more.
Our Mission
To provide honest, practical, and up-to-date guidance for anyone considering life abroad. We go beyond the tourist brochures to give you the real picture — the good, the challenging, and everything in between.
Meet the Founder
Carl S Moller
Founder, Expat Blueprint
Carl S Moller is the founder and sole editor of Expat Blueprint. He researches and writes every guide himself, working from immigration ministries, tax authorities, national statistics and recent first-hand reporting rather than claiming to have lived in all sixteen countries covered.
Having moved abroad myself, I know which questions matter and which official answers deserve a second look. That experience decides what gets written about. The facts themselves come from research, country by country, and the method is written out in full on the editorial standards page.
How this site is researched and written
Everything published here is written and edited by Carl S Moller. There is no anonymous newsroom behind the byline, and no roster of correspondents standing in for one person. It seemed more honest to say that plainly than to dress a small operation up as something larger.
No one has lived in sixteen countries at once, and this site does not pretend otherwise. The guides are research work. Having moved abroad myself decides which questions get asked and which official answers deserve suspicion; it is never offered as first-hand knowledge of a place I have not lived in.
Numbers, visa rules and healthcare details are checked against official sources — immigration ministries, tax authorities, national statistics offices and published rental data — and against recent first-hand accounts from people living in the place. Where a figure is a range rather than a fact, it is written as a range. Where something changed recently, the page carries the date it was last reviewed.
Some of it will still go out of date, and occasionally something will be wrong. When a reader points that out, the page gets corrected rather than quietly left alone. If you spot something that no longer matches reality on the ground, the contact page is the fastest way to reach the person who wrote it.
The full method — which sources are trusted, in what order, and how often each page is re-checked — is set out on the editorial standards page.
