Most of what appears on this site began as a question someone wrote in — a friend puzzling through a visa clause that seemed to contradict itself, a reader in Lisbon asking whether the healthcare article still applied after last winter's rule change, someone in Kuala Lumpur pointing out that a paragraph about tax residency had aged badly. The correspondence is where the writing gets sharper, and where the mistakes get caught.

If you have lived somewhere the site covers and something on a country page reads wrong to you, please say so. Specifics help — a date, a source, the shape of what you experienced — but even a vague sense that a section feels off is useful. We revise more often than we publish new pieces, and reader corrections are the largest single reason a page changes between one month and the next.

If you are considering writing for the site, the honest answer is that we take on contributors slowly and only from people who have lived in a country for at least two years. What we publish is not travel writing and not a step-by-step guide. It is the middle register between them — the register of someone who no longer notices the things that would surprise a visitor, and who has developed opinions strong enough to be worth arguing with. If that sounds like the way you already write, send a note with the country you would want to write from and a paragraph or two on something you would want to say about it.

Questions from readers who are still deciding where to go get answered too, though usually more briefly and often with a redirect to whichever essay or country hub already addresses the specific thing you are working through. If nothing on the site answers it yet, that is often how a new piece begins.

Replies come from a real person, usually within a few days, sometimes longer during travel. If a week passes with no answer, the message probably got caught in a filter — send it again.
